About Actons Opticians in Worcester
Actons Opticians is a small independent opticians in Worcester, owned and run by Victoria Merrett and Andy Stafford since June 2003.
We believe good eyecare is built on experience, continuity and personal relationships. Patients are looked after by familiar faces who take the time to get to know them, their eyes and their visual needs. Siobhan is usually the first person patients speak to or see, whether answering the phone, welcoming them into the practice or helping with new glasses.
Continuity of Care
Every eye examination at Actons Opticians is carried out by Victoria Merrett, our resident optometrist. Seeing the same optometrist at each visit allows a detailed understanding of your eye health and vision to build over time.
Many patients have been attending the practice for years. Victoria now cares for several generations of the same families and continues to see adults whose eyes she first examined as children.
Clinical Experience and Personal Service
Victoria has many years of clinical experience. In addition to her optometry degree, she holds a Masters in Community Optometry from the University of Edinburgh, a glaucoma qualification and is qualified as an Independent Prescriber.
Victoria’s experience and additional qualifications support the comprehensive eyecare services provided at Actons Opticians, including private eye examinations, NHS sight tests, children’s eyecare and NHS CUES appointments.
Longer appointment times and advanced diagnostic equipment, including OCT eye scans, help us provide thorough, personalised eyecare for every patient.
Children’s Eyecare and Frames
We have extensive experience helping children and their families with children’s eyecare and spectacles, including children who have been prescribed glasses following assessment by hospital eye departments or community paediatric eyecare services.
Choosing glasses for a young child can feel daunting, particularly when spectacles have been prescribed for the first time. As a small practice, children and parents are welcomed by the same familiar team, helping appointments feel relaxed and reassuring.
We take time to ensure children’s frames fit correctly, are comfortable to wear and are suitable for the child’s prescription and daily activities. We also stock specialist children’s frame ranges, including Tomato Glasses, designed to provide a secure and comfortable fit for younger wearers.
Independent in Worcester
The Actons name has been associated with optometry in Worcester since 1908. While the practice has changed ownership over the years, Victoria and Andy have owned and operated the business since 2003, continuing to provide independent eyecare from Worcester city centre.
Meet The Team

Victoria – Optometrist
Hello, I’m Victoria. I am the resident optometrist and co-owner of Actons Opticians.
After qualifying in 1999, I worked in Bristol and Swindon before Andy and I took over Actons in 2003.
One of the aspects of independent practice I enjoy most is getting to know patients over many years. I now care for several generations of the same families and continue to see adults whose eyes I first examined as children.
I hold a Masters in Community Optometry from the University of Edinburgh, a glaucoma qualification and am qualified as an Independent Prescriber.

Siobhan – Dispensing Manager
Hello, I’m Siobhan. I first came to Actons as a patient when I was eleven and joined the team in 2017. I work full time and am usually front of house, answering the phone, welcoming patients and helping them choose and fit the most suitable spectacle frames and lenses. After more than nine years here, I know many of our patients very well and enjoy being a familiar face when they visit.

Emma – Optical Assistant
Hello I’m Emma, I’m the newest member of the Actons team, joining in early 2023, I was also a patient for many years before starting work here. I make sure that the clinic runs smoothly and also help patients choose their new spectacle frames and lenses.

Andy – Practice Manager
Hello I’m Andy the co-owner of Actons with Victoria. I’m usually found in my little office under the stairs dealing with behind the scenes issues, popping out to man the desk or answer the phone when its busy.
