At Actons Opticians, eyecare is about more than checking whether you need new glasses. From our independent practice in Worcester city centre, we take time to understand your vision, eye health, symptoms, lifestyle and any concerns you may have.

Our resident optometrist, Victoria Merrett, provides careful, personalised advice and explains the results of your examination in plain English. Eye examinations

Regular eye examinations help check both your vision and the health of your eyes. Actons offers private and NHS eye examinations for eligible patients, with time to discuss symptoms, changes in vision and any questions you may have.

Children’s eyecare

Children do not always realise that their vision is blurred, particularly when one eye sees better than the other. We provide calm, age-appropriate examinations and explain the findings clearly to both children and parents.

Actons dispenses a large number of children’s prescriptions issued by hospital eye departments, so we are experienced in helping families choose suitable lenses and frames for more complex prescriptions. We also offer Tomato Glasses, which are lightweight, highly adjustable and designed to fit young children securely and comfortably.

OCT eye scans

Optical Coherence Tomography, usually called OCT, creates detailed cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve. It can help Victoria examine structures beneath the surface of the eye and compare changes over time.

OCT is an optional additional scan and does not replace a full eye examination. Any additional fee will be explained before you decide.

Urgent eyecare

Some eye symptoms need prompt attention. These may include sudden loss of vision, new flashes or floaters, eye pain, injury, a very red eye or a rapid change in sight.

Actons is an accredited provider of the NHS Community Urgent Eyecare Service in Worcestershire. Please telephone us first so we can discuss your symptoms, assess whether the problem is suitable for the service and check whether we have an appropriate appointment available within the required timeframe.

You may qualify for an NHS-funded sight test because of your age, health, benefits or other circumstances. Evidence may be needed when you attend.

Which service should I choose?

For a routine check, updated prescription or general concerns about your eyesight, start with an eye examination. Choose Children’s Eyecare for younger patients, OCT for information about advanced retinal imaging, and Urgent Eyecare for recent symptoms that may require prompt advice.

If you are unsure, contact the practice and explain what has changed. The team will help direct you appropriately.
